Triumphant Davis Cup team visit 10 Downing Street

Wednesday, December 02 2015 by SNTV
  • Great Britain's victorious Davis Cup team met with British prime minster David Cameron at Downing Street on Tuesday (1st December).

Andy Murray and the Great Britain Davis Cup team were welcomed to number 10 Downing Street by David Cameron to celebrate their triumph.

The team was recognised for its achievements after it ended a 79 year drought in the competition by beating Belgium in Gent on Sunday.

Murray said securing Britain's first Davis Cup since 1936 was a more emotional experience than winning Grand Slam titles or Olympic gold.

The Scot won 11 of 12 points of the campaign.

He was the dominant force throughout it, as he became only the third man after John McEnroe and Mats Wilander to end a campaign with an 8-0 singles record.

And he posed for photographs outside number 10 alongside his brother Jamie, Kyle Edmund, James Ward, Dominic Inglot, captain Leon Smith and the Prime Minister.

The team then disappeared through London's most famous door with the trophy in hand.
