Schwartzel and Pepperell react after Alfred Dunhill Championship

  • Reaction following the second round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship on Friday (27th November).

SOUNDBITE (English) Charl Schwartzel, South Africa, five-under 65 in second round, leads at 11-under:

"You know, I think it's probably one of the two hardest rounds that I've experienced at Leopard Creek. Very seldom do we find the wind this strong, and some of the shots were intimidating and tough. So, the score that I'm at feels like I've really played good golf."

SOUNDBITE (English) Charl Schwartzel, South Africa, five-under 65 in second round, leads at 11-under:

"You know, if I can stay within myself and stay the way I've been the last two days, just playing my game, I would think I would give myself a very good chance of winning. The reality is I haven't won for a while, I haven't played well for a while, so I've got to get rid of those, sort of, thoughts. But, like I said, one thing I do know is if I keep playing within myself, then I've got a good chance."

SOUNDBITE (English) Eddie Pepperell, England, seven-under 65 in second round, tied sixth at five-under: (on how he achieved such a good score compared to his two-over 74 on round one)

"Well, the putting, I think, first and foremost. As we were just saying, I had 24 (putts) today I think and 33 yesterday, so there's nine and I'm nine shots better (than round one). The obvious difference is the putting. I had a period today when I hit the ball better, my front nine, the back nine, for the first 11 holes I had pretty good control of the golf ball and took advantage with the putts. So, actually not hugely different to yesterday. Yesterday I was going along quite nicely and hit a bunker shot in the water and made triple bogey, and from there I just sort of capitulated. After I made double today and I chipped it in a bunker I thought 'here we go again,' but 65 is a good score."
