Murray wins to level Davis Cup Final

Saturday, November 28 2015 by SNTV
  • Andy Murray kept Britain in contention in the Davis Cup final when he beat Belgium's Ruben Bemelmans in straight sets to leave the two nations level at 1-1 after the opening singles on Friday (27 November).

Another two players met who had never faced one another.

Andy Murray was looking to get Great Britain back level with Belgium when he faced Ruben Bemelmans.

The World No.2 raced into a two-love lead and it looked ominous for the World No.108, but he found an immediate break and then thrilled the home crowd with this deft touch.

Murray would break again and then go on to take the opener 6-3.

Into the second and Murray found a peach of backhand to move into a double break.

GB were on course for 1-all as Murray led two-love, yet Bemelmans showed a bit of resistance in the third and went on the attack.

And into the 11th game the Belgian No.3 was in the set.

Although here at love-40 down Bemelmans was on the back foot and finding little depth with his groundstrokes to challenge Murray.

Murray attacked and gave himself the chance to serve out the match.

The British No.1 made no mistake and levels up the tie with his ninth win in nine Davis Cup games this year.

Murray will now line up in the doubles on Saturday.
