Training bust-up what we needed - McClaren

Saturday, November 28 2015 by SNTV
  • Newcastle manager Steve McClaren spoke on Friday (27th November) ahead of his side's English Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Saturday (28th November).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Steve McClaren, Newcastle United manager (on the argument he had with several senior players during a training session):

"I love feisty sessions, and it was, and it's just what we needed. We got the message across. After every game we, we sit down, we say 'this is why we won. This is why we drew. This is why we lost.' and we did that on Monday. For three days we sorted it out and yeah, it was, yeah, one of them weeks that, that coaches like, but you don't want it after a bad performance but you need it, and as I say, the energy, that's what we want. We need to take that into tomorrow."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Steve McClaren, Newcastle United manager (on his players):

"I hope they get back to what they've been doing, the previous four games before that (last Saturday's 3-0 defeat against Leicester City). Good performances, a hard team to play against, work rate, attitude, good organisation and play good football, and I think we lacked a lot of them things last week."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Steve McClaren, Newcastle United manager (on the game against Crystal Palace):

"We plan, as we always do. Palace are a very, very good team. I think, Alan Pardew's done a good job since he's been there.... and they've been doing well. I think they were a little unlucky and Sunderland did well (beating Palace 1-0 on Monday) and defended well, which they had to do and you have to do and that's the first thing we've got to do tomorrow: we've got to defend very well, and far better than we did last week."
