Mixed start for Spieth at Australian Open

  • World number one Jordan Spieth shoots a level-par 71 on the first day of the Australian Open in Sydney.

World number one Jordan Spieth had a mixed first day of the Australian Open in Sydney. The US Open and Masters Champion was one under going into the 18th. He hit this shot out of the bunker but went on to bogie the whole for a level-par 71.

Home favourite Adam Scott's round couldn't have started much better, he sank this for a birdie on the first.

But he struggled after, even this shot on the ninth was only good enough for a double bogie.

He improved on the way back to the clubhouse and ended on the same group of 13 as Spieth on level par.

This man is the early pace-setter though, Australian Lincon Tighe made seven birdies on his way to a five-under-par round.

His fellow countryman Matthew Jones is his closest competition, he is four under. Can they keep the likes of Spieth and Scott at bay for another three days?
