-
A round of 64 from Christiaan Basson set the early target at the Alfred Dunhill Championship as the 2016 European Tour got underway in South Africa.
SOUNDBITE (English): Christiaan Basson, first-round leader:
"For me this is exceptional, I really played very well today, I was pleasantly surprised. I was coming into this week in good form but you don't expect to shoot that good a round (64) first off."
SOUNDBITE (English): Niclas Fasth, joint fourth place:
"It's not a sensational score but I mean four under is good on any course, any day, any time of the year. I played well today, I could have shot lower at 17 greens but I am very pleased."
SOUNDBITE (English): Matt Ford, joint second place:
"Very happy. I didn't start great so I was relatively happy to be on level par through nine holes. I chipped in on ten and then had two good shots down 12, no 13, the par five, then just off the green and holed that eagle, so the putting stats looked good today just because of those. I didn't play my best to be honest, but I scored well and probably got the most out fo the round."
"I've always had some good rounds around this course, at this tournament, so it's nice to set off with a good score and hopefully I will put four good rounds together this week, rather than just one or two."
