  • Keegan positive on England and Liverpool futureFormer player Kevin Keegan has described new coach Jurgen Klopp as "a perfect fit for Liverpool".

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Kevin Keegan:

    (On the England team.)

"The problem England had in qualifying (for the 2016 European Championship in France) was the group was very weak, so it was hard to judge them. So I think the next few months the friendly games they have will give us more of an idea where England are. I don't think can be the winners of even the Euros but I think they can get to the semi-finals, and that would build them on for Russia and give them some confidence. And I think in Russia, if these youngsters keep coming through, in other words they don't level out and start to fade, like youngsters sometimes can, and they reach the potential that they're capable of, then, yes, we have a chance of going further than we've been in a long time."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Kevin Keegan:

(On Liverpool and new coach Jurgen Klopp.)

"They took Manchester City apart (won away in the Premier League on 21st November) - 4-1 and it could have been more - and you saw that game, and I think as an ex-Liverpool player, I thought 'is this the start now?' I mean, that's the sort of football the Liverpool fans want to see Liverpool Football Club play. It wasn't always the case under Brendan Rodgers, you know it wasn't always exciting enough. At home especially, they expect you to go after teams - you're at home, this is Anfield, this is where we play, you don't come here and get an easy time, we're going to make it difficult for you. And I think Jurgen Klopp's a perfect fit for Liverpool now because he has that sort of character that the fans can relate to. You see a goal go in, yes (expressed as crowd member)... he's with the players. He looks to me like he's a real players' manager, you know, he's with them."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Kevin Keegan:

(On 2022 World Cup in Qatar.)

"Every World Cup has its own memories and Qatar will have some as well, and we don't know what they are yet because it's not happened, but they'll be special things that people remember. It may be the fantastic stadiums or it may be just the whole atmosphere and how far the Qatari people went to embrace the World Cup. These are all things we're going to find out."
