Protestors in Kenya call for change in country's athletics programme

Tuesday, November 24 2015 by SNTV
  • Operations at Athletics Kenya (AK)'s Riadha House headquarters were put on hold on Monday morning (23rd November) after protestors called for two of the top officials to vacate their offices, as they barricaded themselves inside the building - which was then placed under tight security.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Julias Ndegwa, Kenyan athlete:

"Everybody is complaining against him (Athletics Kenya Federation president Isaiah Kiplagat), even at the IAAF, everybody, even at Nike. The doping menace has been caused by him and under his office, so we want a clean sport and we need change to happen with immediate effect and that would would be today (Monday)."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Patrick Kariuki, Athletics Kenya Nairobi region treasurer:

"But this is not an individual issue for PAAK (Professional Athletes Association of Kenya) to stay here and start saying so must go, so must go and you know the issue at hand, it came from the IAAF. So, its a weighty issue for an individual to comment about it. So, this is something that requires a SGM (Secretariat General Meeting)."
