Comini defies Macau pile up winning TCR title

Monday, November 23 2015 by SNTV
  • Swiss driver Stefano Comini captured the TCR international series title after victory in a dramatic final race in Macau.

Stefano Comini held a seven point championship lead going into the final race of the TCR season at the Guia circuit in Macau.

But it was to be an eventful ten laps before the Swiss driver could get his hand on the title.

Race two was halted just seconds after the start, as race one winner Rob Huff and Jordi Gene collided.

That sparked a huge pile up that left eleven cars out of the race.

When the action did get underway again, a thrilling duel ensued between Comini and the only man who could thwart his title bid, Pepe Oriola.

The Spaniard tried, tried and tried some more to get past Comini and made contact with the Swiss' Seat Leon on a number of occasions.

Oriola's challenge ended on lap eight, when he was forced to retire with a pierced radiator.

Oriola seen dropping off here in the red Seat.

That moved Comini's Target team mate Andrea Belicchi up into second and Comini could coast to the title.

Mikhail Grachev came home in third.
