Millar jumps to lead Australian Masters

  • Adam Scott blasted a six-over 77 as the unheralded Australian Mathew Millar carded a three-under 68 for a one shot lead heading into the final round of the Australian Masters in Victoria on Saturday (21st November).

Windy conditions welcomed players ahead of the third round of the Australian Masters at Huntingdale Golf Club in Victoria, Australia.

Overnight co-leader Adam Scott dropped a shot on the first hole but quickly got it back when he slammed in a birdie on the 2nd with a long putt. However, that was as good as it got for the day for the former US Masters champion.

Adam Scott's round started to unravel on the sixth hole with a bogey. He followed that with a wayward drive on the 7th to make another bogey.

Scott, who never looked comfortable negotiating the southerly winds or the tricky greens, walked off with bogeys on 10th and 11th holes to end his round disappointingly with back-to-back bogeys on the 17th and 19th holes.

Scott shot a 77 to tie for eleventh at two-under for the tournament.

With the top draw of the tournament tumbling down, veteran Peter Senior, who won this tournament twenty years ago, stepped up with a brilliant round of 68. The 56-year-old Australian's shot of the round was this terrific approach on the tough 17th hole. Even though he settled for a par there, Peter Senior is only two shots back at five-under for the tournament and joint third with John Senden.

Mathew Millar jumped up the leaderboard with a superb round of 68.

Millar made his first birdie on the 7th hole before making three more birdies on the 9th, 15th and 16th holes to end at the top of the pile at seven-under 206.

Millar, former regular on European and Japan Tours and currently a pro in Canberra, has a one-shot lead going into the final round.
