Athletes want stricter drugs testing

Sunday, November 22 2015 by SNTV
  • WADA said on Saturday (21st November) that there is a strong call from athletes to enhance drug testing.

SOUNDBITE: (English), Frederic Donze, WADA, Director in the European Office:

"There was a really strong call from our constituents which are, as you probably know composed in equal parts by Olympic movement and governments of the world, to strengthen WADA's comprehensive code compliance monitoring process. There was in particular a strong call from athletes around the table and WADA's athlete committee for WADA to further enhance the process of monitoring compliance of all sports and all countries around the world."

SOUNDBITE: (English), Frederic Donze, WADA, Director in the European Office:

"The idea was to have around the same table IAFs, WADA and the IOC to discuss this. This will be reported in the May 2016 at the next foundation board meeting. And after that if the feasibility is considered as being appropriate there will be a big group encompassing most stakeholders that will look more into the details. This would include NOC's (National Olympic Committees), national anti-doping organisations and so on. If there is a feeling from the NOC's, Patrick (Patrick Hickey, EOC president) that the first exploratory group should include NOC's I am sure it will be met with positiveness by the IOC and by WADA."
