Harlequins go top of European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool three

Saturday, November 21 2015 by SNTV
  • Harlequins moved to the top of European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool three on Thursday night (19th November) following a 32-20 bonus point win over hosts Cardiff Blues.

Winners of their opening games in European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool three, Cardiff Blues and Harlequins went head-to-head for game two.

Before the game, the two sets of players and fans showed their respect for former Blues player and New Zealand legend Jonah Lomu, who passed away following a heart attack this week.

The first try of the match came 10 minutes into the second half.

Winger Tim Visser ran in from inside his own half of the pitch to score.

Two minutes later and the Quins scored again.

Full back Ollie Lindsay-Hague finished the move off.

Charlie Walker then helped to extend the advantage in the 65th minute.

At 25-6 Harlequins were running away with it.

Cardiff made a late rally and reduced the deficit with a penalty try in 70th minute.

Any hopes of a late comeback looked to be dashed four minutes later when replacement hooker Matthew Rees was shown a red card for stamping on Nick Easter's face.

But another Blues try in the final minute for replacement prop Sam Hobbs cut the deficit to just five points after the conversion.

    But Cardiff gave away possession.

Dave Ward off-loaded for Danny Care to score down the left wing.

A fourth try sealed the bonus point for the Quins, who won 32-20 and moved top of Pool three.
