Saturday, November 21 2015 by SNTV
  • Paris 2024 candidacy co-president Tony Estanguet and European Olympic Committee president Patrick Hickey talk about the threat posed in the wake of last week's terror attacks in Paris.

SOUNDBITE: (English), Tony Estanguet, IOC member:

"It means sport is a target and it will be a target for all the events coming. That's why I think it is a permanent issue because this kind of crazy people they attack what people like and sport is one of them. So it's good to see they couldn't get in the stadium.

"We don't have to think about the security in 2024 (Paris Olympic games), security has to be done in the next couple of days and weeks. We are leaving this topics to the authorities and it is good to see that internationally there is a common energy to share good expertise to solve this problem."

SOUNDBITE (English): Patrick Hickey, President of the EOC:

"We must face up to the fact that the risk of terrorism and the extremism that feeds it is now sadly part in all our lives in Europe. Evil is no respecter to boundaries. But as leaders of sport in Europe we have a duty to help society use sport as a way of providing unity and cohesion in the face of division and hatred."
