McIlroy: "It was a nice way to finish"

  • Reaction following the first round of the DP World Championship in the Race to Dubai finale in Dubai, UAE

SOUNDBITE: (English) Rory McIlroy, Northern Ireland:

"Yes, it was a nice way to finish. It was a bit scrappy before that. I mean I bogeyed the tenth hole and then got it back with a couple of good birdies straight away. In between those birdies and the birdie at the last there was some ugly golf in there but it is nice to get around in 68. I felt like it was a little struggle at times out there but to produce something like that and obviously - the way I finished makes me feel a lot better."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Andy Sullivan, England:

"Yeah, it was just great fun out there today. Me and Martin (Kaymer) played really well so it was good just both of us pulling each other along, getting in front of the other and then ending up finishing at six-under. I was swinging it really well on the range and I just said to myself that I am the only person who can mess this up today so I just thought to go out there and enjoy it like I normally do and be mentally good."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Martin Kaymer, Germany:

"I was playing decent the last few weeks and months. A couple of holes here and there that really ruined my results for the week. Two tournaments in China and I had twice a nine. So that is tough to recover from that. Overall playing good enough to compete. Today I thought I didn't make anything special so that is all a good sign."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Ian Poulter, England:

"Pretty good. It was a good round of golf. I took care of the par four and threes today and left a few out there on the par-fives. I didn't birdie two, didn't birdie seven from a very good opportunity - I was only three feet from the pin. Missed a real small birdie putt there and I didn't birdie there last. So, I have played very well today to obviously come in with six-under par but you know, there is a long way to go. It's a golf course I do like, had some low rounds on this course, some pretty good experience around here. I like the way it sets up."
