  • New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen and McCaw reflected on the death of Jonah Lomu, with McCaw stating the winger was "a legend of the game".

SOUDNBITE: (English) Richie McCaw, All Blacks captain (On Jonah Lomu):

"Thoughts and condolences go out to his wife and two young boys and family. When I was thinking about my experience with Jonah, when I first became an All Black he was in the team. To play alongside a guy that you watched as a young fella was pretty amazing. I don't think it hit home to me till I went overseas and played my first, on my first tour. We got to a training ground, where there was hundreds of people, in Ireland, and I climbed off the bus and the whole mob came at me and I thought "this is cool to be an All Black" and they kept running past, I looked behind me and there was Jonah, and that was all the man they were after. So it was, I think that really hit home to me about the superstar he was. So I just wanted to take a moment to express my condolences. And he is a legend of the game, I think bigger probably overseas than he is here in New Zealand. So there is a lot of people around the world I'm sure that will be hurting from hearing the loss of a great man and a great All Black. So, yeah as I say, I just wanted a chance to pay my respects as we all did."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Steve Hansen, All Blacks coach (On Jonah Lomu) :

"Obviously one of the great players to have put on the jersey, humble bloke and, but the biggest thing that I think is sad is not the fact we have lost an All Black, because we've lost many All Blacks over the years, but it was the fact we have a man who has left behind a family, two young sons and a wife and our thoughts and prayers go out to them and we send our love and sympathies to you on behalf of the All Blacks."
