  • Kei Nishikori beat Tomas Berdych in three sets on Tuesday (17th November) in the ATP World Tour Finals.

Kei Nishikori opened the ATP World Tour Finals with a far from impressive 6-1, 6-1 defeat, albeit against World number one, Novak Djokovic.

Looking to bounce back, he was up against Tomas Berdych in the second group match.

The Czech also suffering an opening match defeat to Roger Federer.

The pair had not crossed paths since 2012, Nishikori took that meeting in Tokyo and got off to a strong start in London as he took the opening set 7-5.

Aware the defeat would see him crash out, Berdych fought back and sealed the second set 6-3 to send the match into a decisive third.

Despite that, he wasn't able to make the most of that momentum and complete the comeback.

Nishikori securing the win following a lenghty rally, which echoed the match itself, the Japanese player requiring two hours and 23 mintues to see off his opponent.

He will need more of the same against Roger Federer on Thursday if he is to advance to the last four.
