Ogier triumphs in sombre end to Rally Championship

Monday, November 16 2015 by SNTV
  • Long-since crowned the 2015 World Rally Champion, Sebastien Ogier wrapped up his third-successive Rally Wales GB victory on Sunday (15th November) in Brenig.

The 2015 World Rally Championship came to an end on Sunday.

What would have been a celebratory occasion proved to be a sombre day in the wake of Friday's terrorist attacks in Paris.

Frenchman Sebastien Ogier had long since wrapped the championship and was largely unimpeded as he cruised to victory in the Rally Wales for the third successive season.

Nevertheless, he was in no mood to celebrate.

    SOUNDBITE (English): Sebastien Ogier:

"It is the the best way to finish the season 'sportively', definitely. But yeah, these is no point in celebrating anything today, for sure. We are far away to have this in mind. It has been a difficult weekend. Let's see - we have to carry on. But let's say it is the best way to finish the season positively."

The Volkswagen Polo R driver beat Kris Meeke to the top step on the podium.

Nevertheless, Meeke's second place proved to be the best finish in a home event by a Brit in 15 years.

On a muted podium, Ogier and his fellow drivers paused to remember those lost in the Paris attacks.
