  • Russia's Maria Sharapova beat Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-4 to level the Fed Cup final at 1-1 in Prague on Saturday (14th November). Petra Kvitova beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 earlier in the day,

Petra Kvitova was first up for defending champions the Czech Republic in the Fed Cup Final on Saturday.

Although the world number six boasts a record of 20 wins from 22 Fed Cup matches, she made as slow start against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

The Russian taking the first set 6-2.

But Kvitova retaliated, taking the second and third sets 6-1.

Edging the Czech Republic a little closer to their fourth Fed Cup title in five years.

Next up for Russia was Maria Sharapova, looking to restore parity.

After she squandered two match points at 5-3 against Karolina Pliskova, she eventually served out the first set 6-3.

The Czech went 2 love up in the second, as she took advantage of Sharapova's faltering service game.

But the former world number one's experience showed - she hung on to take the second set 6-4.

All square at the O2 arena - until Kvitova and Sharapova meet in Sunday's reverse singles, in what could prove to be a decisive encounter.
