Reaction after Sergio Garcia takes the opening round lead at the European Tour's BMW Masters in Shanghai on Thursday (12 November)
SOUNDBITE (English) Sergio Garcia, Spain, leads with a eight-under par 64:
"Yeah, that was nice. Obviously, I played nicely. Conditions were quite good, not much wind - a little bit of a drizzle, but other than that it was good. The course is nice. But I drove the ball very well and that gave me a lot of opportunities to hit some great shots and, you know, it was a nice round."
SOUNDBITE (English) Justin Rose, England, tied-sixth with a five-under par 67:
"Absolutely, I think I started on the back nine last year and I was like four-over (par) through four (holes), I think. From that point on I almost made a bunch of birdies and put myself in contention to win the tournament, so I had a hell of a lot more of a smooth start today. One-under (par) through the first four, so we celebrated that. You know, I played okay today, I was only one-under through 11 and I could see a lot of the other guys were going low today and I tried to urge myself to sort of get it to three or four-under for the round and I actually beat my own expectations and finished five-under for the round, so I'm very happy with how I played the last seven or eight holes and it was a good day's work in the end."
SOUNDBITE (English) Lucas Bjerregaard, Denmark, tied-fourth with a six-under par 66:
"It was nice to get off to a good start. I was home last week and didn't play much golf. I unpacked my golf bag on Friday, so just a little bit of practice on Saturday, but it was nice to get going again and I played pretty solid, at least on the front nine. I hit a couple of bad drives coming in (on the back nine) but managed to save pars on those holes, so all-in-all a good day."
