Thursday, November 12 2015 by SNTV
  • IOC President Thomas Bach said ON Wednesday he expects track and field's world governing body to take "the necessary measures" against the Russian federation for its record on doping.

SOUNDBITE (English) Thomas Bach, IOC President:

"This was a shocking and very saddening news. I could never have imagined that an international federation, the leadership, would be soliciting bribes from athletes in order to manipulate sport competitions. This is unbelievable and I think makes everybody who loves sport very very sad."

SOUNDBITE (English) Thomas Bach, IOC President:

"You will see medals being withdrawn, you will see athletes being sanctioned by the IAAF (Internation Association of Athletic Federations), you will see athletes and officials being excluded, and you will see an action led by the IOC to make anti-doping testing independent from sports organisations."

SOUNDBITE (English) Thomas Bach, IOC President:

"Again, I have confidence in the IAAF and the new leadership in the IAAF that they will take the necessary measures and as far as I'm informed there will already be some decisions be taken on Friday and I am very positive that these measures will go into the right direction. That means to protect the clean athletes."
