Younis Khan announces retirement

Thursday, November 12 2015 by SNTV
  • Reaction from Abu Dhabi after Pakistan coasted to a comfortable 6-wicket win over England in the first one-day international (ODI) on Wednesday (11th November).

SOUNDBITE (English) Younis Khan, Pakistan batsman:

    (on his retirement)

"For me, after the World Cup, I've waited for this moment around seven to eight months. I've pushed myself, I've pushed the selectors, I've pushed everybody back in Pakistan, that Younis Khan is still capable to play one-day cricket for his country and it never entered my mind that I would play two or three series or maybe... but I wanted to be ready for this moment. Whenever I have a chance - one chance - I will play and retire myself on my conditions and not on other conditions, so... why us that? Because there is some inner place in my mind that I leave a legacy, the kind of player that is Younis Khan, leave the field, retires on his own conditions, so it's not a shocking decision for me, I was waiting for this moment around seven or eight months."

SOUNDBITE (English) Eoin Morgan, England captain:

"No, absolutely not. I think probably from there, the big positive was having Pakistan in the same position at the halfway mark. They were about 140 for 4, 25 overs, around about there. And we were in a similar position and a credit to the bowlers to get us in that position, but certainly we were slow out of the traps today, and given the repair work that me and James Taylor did, it's very disappointing to lose us two in the space of about four or five overs.
