Venus Williams wins first WTA Elite Trophy and makes the world top 10 for the first time in four-and-a-half years (8 November 2015)

Venus Williams clinched her third title of the year in Zhuhai. The 35-year-old beat Karolina Pliskova to win the inaugural WTA Elite Trophy.

She returns to the world top 10 for the first time since April 2011.

Williams dominated the opening games, leading 4-1 until Pliskova (in her 6th final of 2015) fought back to 5-all. Williams broke to take the first 7-5 and won the second on a tiebreak 8-6.

The new event at season's end brings together women ranked 11-21 in the world.

The American's victory in straight sets 7-5, 7-6 is her third of the year: she last won so many in 2008.
