Title one hard won for Ahn

  • South Korea's Sun-Ju Ahn fights through three-way playoff to win her first ever LPGA title on Sunday (8 November).

Sun-Ju Ahn's first ever LPGA Tour Title - the Toto Japan Classic - might have slipped away.

In the last hole of regulation play, Ahn's birdie putt skimmed the top of the hole but stayed out.

The South Korean found herself in a three-way playoff against experienced American Angela Stanford and compatriot Ji-Hee Lee.

But the 28-year-old regained her composure instantly.

A missed birdie put from Lee - followed by a near miss from Stanford... gave Ahn a second chance to take home the $225,000 prize.

And this time her putt went in sweetly.

Best known for being stripped for being stripped of the 2014 British Open lead by a penalty for an illegal stance, Sun-Ju Ahn's win in the Toto Japan Classic means she can now take up LPGA Tour membership next season.

Her 26 titles on the Japanese and Korean Tours suggest she'll be a real force on the LPGA Tour next year.
