American Kevin Kisner's lead at the WGC-HSBC Champions event has been cut to one shot before play was suspended in Shanghai because of darkness.
The 31-year-old leads on 16-under after shooting a two-under-par 70.
On a day when play was delayed because of lightning, the final group of Kisner, Russell Knox of Scotland and South African Branden Grace were asked on the 18th tee if they wanted to play the hole.
Knox opted not to, while Grace carded a birdie to finish on 12-under and Kisner had a par.
Inverness-born golfer Knox is joined in second spot by American Dustin Johnson and Haotong Li of China.
Masters and US Open champion Jordan Spieth surged into contention after the Texan carded a 63 to move to within three of the lead.
While fellow former world number one Rory McIlroy reduced the gap at the top to eight strokes after the Northern Irishman's four-under 68.
The third round in China will resume on Sunday.
