Paris Masters: Djokovic books Wawrinka semi

Sunday, November 08 2015 by SNTV
  • Novak Djokovic sets-up a Paris Masters semi-final against Stanislas Wawrinka after respective defeats of Tomáš Berdych and Rafael Nadal.

Novak Djokovic and Stanislas Wawrinka will face each other for the third time this season after respective victories in the Paris Masters quarter-finals.

Defending champion Djokovic recorded his 20th consecutive victory after beating Tomáš Berdych 7-6 7-6.

The Palais Omnisports stadium overlooks the Seine, a river named after the goddess Sequana. Djokovic will hope to continue his ascent into tennis royalty by becoming the first player to win six ATP Masters 1000 titles in a season.

Wawrinka will be looking to bring the Serbian back down to earth after tasting success against seventh seed Rafael Nadal of Spain.

The Swiss' 7-6 7-6 success was a measure of revenge after the 14-time Grand Slam champion prevailed in the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals last month.

In a match that stretched beyond 1am local time in the French capital, Wawrinka needed to be wide awake in the second to save three set points and seal victory.
