  • Kevin Kisner leads the WGC Champions on Friday in Shanghai, China, two shots clear of Russell Knox.

Many of the big names continued to struggle at the HSBC Champions on Friday.

The likes of Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy all ending the day at least nine shots off the lead at the Sheshan International Golf Club.

Spieth and McIlroy could only manage a level par 72 to remain four-under.

McIlroy however did have one of the shots of the day.

He almost holed out at the par 3, 12th.

After landing on the green it looked in all the way, only for it to come away, inches from an ace.

Dustin Johnson was one of the few big names to build a challenge.

He had a quiet day until a birdie at 16, 17 and then this for another at 18.

The American carded a one-under par 71 to end the day in a tie for 6th on eight-under.

He was outshone by countryman Patrick Reed.

The Texan was two-under for the round and after a 65 on the opening day, he is at nine-under.

First round leader, Branden Grace continued to play some superb golf.

The South African came in with a 71 after a 63 on Thursday.

Scotsman Russel Knox had one the best round of the day.

He shot a bogey free 65 to add to his 67 from the opening round to sit second on 12-under.

But out in front is Kevin Kisner.

The American has yet to pick up a victory on the PGA but has made three top ten's this year - the best results of his career.

He followed up an opening day 64 with a 66 to close on 14-under par, two shots clear at the half way stage.
