  • Reaction as Sam Burgess' return to the South Sydney Rabbitohs is confirmed.

SOUNDBITE: (English) John Lee, South Sydney Rabbitohs CEO:

"Literally the ink is still drying on the contract so what started back on Grand Final night when coach Michael Maguire started texting Sam about 'what if' for the future and then two months later we've secured a great player. This is a great day for rugby league - it's an old cliché but a good one - and a great injection of talent back to the club, the Rabbitohs, really Sam's spiritual home."

SOUNDBITE: (English) John Lee, South Sydney Rabbitohs CEO:

"It's like anything. When you leave something that you love it's always great when you return. So I think there was also some residual feelings about Sam, he wanted to follow a dream and he wanted to be a dual international in both in rugby league and rugby union to get that cap. But really, this is where his love is - he loves Sydney, he is marrying an Australian girl, he loves South Sydney and ultimately he loves rugby league. So we think it is a great trifecta and we think it is going to be great for our club."

SOUNDBITE: (English) John Lee, South Sydney Rabbitohs CEO:

"I think when you are one of the top five players in the game you've just got to concede that he is on a lucrative arrangement and all credit to him because he has wonderful talents, he has a presence, whether it is in the gym, whether it is onfield with sprints or even playing during games. There is great gravitas that Sam will bring to the playing group and I am sure they are all going to lift having their mate playing next to them in 2016."

SOUNDBITE: (English), John Lee, South Sydney Rabbitohs CEO:

"Speaking to Sam this morning I think he has mixed feelings because he has some great mates and he has really enjoyed his time specifically at Bath Rugby but when the opportunity came to return home - and he is like a modern day legend of our club. It's like Sattler, McCarthy, you would say Burgess - the broken cheekbone et cetera in '14. So this is just a happy day for the club because the bunnies get the Burgess boys back."
