Ambrose and Mushtaq on taking cricket to the US

Saturday, November 07 2015 by SNTV
  • Cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne were in New York on Thursday to choose their sides for the 2015 Cricket All Stars tour of the US. The teams will play three T-20 matches, in New York, Houston and Los Angeles.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Curtly Ambrose, Antigua, West Indies:

"I mean when you've got 30 former great cricketers all in the same room at the same time whichever way it goes you're going to have a great team anyway. I'm just happy to be a part of it because I think it's something very special. And of course cricket not being very popular in America, I think bringing these cricket all-stars to America could be the start of something special going forward. It's a short form of the game, it's T-20 and I know Americans like sport to be over and done with in a couple of hours, so that's why I believe this T-20 event will take off here in America."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Saqlain Mushtaq, Pakistan:

"Obviously it's a great idea to come here and play cricket and obviously to promote cricket in the US. And obviously it's sort of like a galaxy of stars and they all are here and having fun and playing competitive cricket as well. And after the games then you all can be together and you can share your stories and all memories. I am very excited and it's a privilege and honour to be here and obviously to promote cricket in the US."
