Andy Murray reached the Paris Masters semi-finals for the first time with a hard-fought 7-6 (7), 3-6, 6-3 win over Richard Gasquet on Friday (6th November), while David Ferrer overcame John Isner 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-2.
Andy Murray took a 6-3 head-to-head record into his BNP Paribas Masters quarter-final against France's Richard Gasquet on Friday.
He had also won their last three meetings and was hoping to make it ninth time lucky in reaching his first semi-final in Bercy.
He raced to a 4-1 lead in the first set, only for Gasquet to battle back to force a tie-break.
The Frenchman had a set point at 6-5, but Murray managed to fend him off, before finally winning the tie-break 9-7.
Gasquet, roared on by his home crowd, won the second set 6-3.
And the momentum seemed to be with the world number 10 at that stage - he broke early in the third set for a 2-1 lead.
But Murray rattled off five of the next six games to win the decider 6-3, sealing his place in the last four.
And hoping to join him in the semis was David Ferrer, who has won five titles this year.
The Spaniard started strongly against opponent John Isner - he took the opener 6-3.
He broke in the eighth game of the second set but his composure deserted him - Isner forcing a tie-breaker.
An impressive backhand winner down the line and some strong serving saw him restore parity - one set all.
Isner was clearly strggling in the third set, though, calling for a medical timeout.
Ferrer took advantage, winning the decider set 6-2 to set up a meeting with Andy Murray in the last four.
