Big screens in danger in New York - Warne

Thursday, November 05 2015 by SNTV
  • Global cricket superstars Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne headline a star-studded lineup of renowned players from around the world in the inaugural "Cricket All-Star Series" on Saturday, November 7 at 1:00 p.m at Citi Field.

The New York event is part of a three-city tour marking the first time these icons have played in the United States. It also renews the famous rivalry between "Master Blaster" Tendulkar and "King of Spin" Warne.

    SOUNDBITE (English) Shane Warne:

(Regarding Citi Field, where he and Sachin Tendulkar watched a World Series Game on Sunday - 1st November, as a venue)

"We reckon the big screen could be in serious trouble. I think some of the guys can absolutely, if they crunch one, I reckon the big screen is in trouble. The one thing we experienced, the atmosphere was amazing. And when you throw in the Indians, their passion for the game of cricket, and they see Sachin and (VVS) Laxman and (Virender) Sehwag, some of these Indian guys, (Sourav) Ganguly, that play, the American guys, when they come along to the game, when they hear this noise, will go 'wow, my goodness, this is loud'." And so to create that atmosphere, with hopefully 40-odd thousand people there at the game, on Saturday, we're pretty excited. An iconic baseball stadium, Citi Field, it was awesome, and to think that there's going to be a drop in cricket pitch in a baseball stadium, playing cricket, 20-20, which is a new version of the game, and myself and my friend Sachin going out to toss the coin, is a pretty amazing experience, and really, it's cool."

    SOUNDBITE (English) Shane Warne:

    (on facing Sachin Tendulkar again)

"Yeah, Sachin and I have had some wonderful contests, he's basically owned me for the 20 years we've been playing together. So I'm trying to get some sort of revenge back on him, it won't be easy, I'm sure he's going to smack me all around the park again. But the one good thing about it, we're great mates away from the cricket, hence we're doing this together. It was our idea. We're putting this on. We're everyone's hosts. For us to play each other, as much as we're mates, as soon as we cross that line, it's looking like, ok, who's going to have bragging rights. And all the history about what happened beforehand doesn't matter. If I can get him out in one of these games we're all going to sit at the bar and say: 'Hey Sachin, who got you out today mate?' or And vice-versa, he can say 'Shane, how did you bowl today? How many sixes did I hit off you?'. And that will go for all the little battles, whether it's and Wasim Akram and Brian Lara, Curtly Ambrose and Ricky Ponting."
