Roger Federer contested the Swiss Indoors final for the 12th time on Sunday, taking on old rival Rafael Nadal for the first time in almost two years.

Top seed Federer, whose collection of six Basel titles before the match was already a record.

And he took the upper hand, breaking Nadal's serve in the fifth game.

He tamed the Spaniard's serve again in the ninth game, taking the opening set 6-3.

The second went with serve until Nadal forced his first break of the match. He then served out to level the match at a set apiece.

But with the Swiss fans firmly behind him, Federer raised his game in the decider, breakling his long-time rival's serve.

Nadal wasn't to be beaten though - he took the ninth game to deuce.

Luck - and the crowd - were on Federer's side, however. Nadal sending a return long at Championship point.

The 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 victory ended Federer's five-match losing streak against Nadal, and it also sealed his seventh Swiss Indoors title.
