Taylor replaces Buttler for must-win Test

Sunday, November 01 2015 by SNTV
  • England pick James Taylor to make batting impact in second Test against Pakistan on Sunday (November 1) after 3 years without Test cricket.

    Script:

England have dropped wicketkeeper Jos Buttler and replaced him with James Taylor for their must-win third Test against Pakistan which starts in Sharjah on Sunday.

Middle-order batsman Taylor has two England caps, but last played a Test match three years ago against South Africa.

SOUNDBITE (English): Alastair Cook, England captain:

'He's obviously itching to play and you don't average 47-48 in first-class cricket without being a fine player. One of his very strong strengths is that when he goes in he gets big scores. Last year he got big double-hundreds.'

In the absence of Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow will keep starting on Sunday. Runs are key in this test and Buttler has struggled with batting, averaging 8.5 runs from his last four innings in Test cricket.

England captain Alastair Cook had this to say about Jos Buttler:

SOUNDBITE (English): Alastair Cook, England captain:

"We all know the amount of talent he has got, you see him play an innings that everyone around the world says is amazing. But he's not the first person who has come in, done pretty well then had a tough patch, been left out and come back stronger. And I think he only has to look at Joe Root as an example of that."

Fast bowler Mark Wood will be rested due to an ongoing ankle problem with Liam Plunkett his likely replacement, unless England opt for Samit Patel as a third spinner .

England lost the second Test in Dubai by 178 runs and trail the three-Test series 1-0.
