South Africa's Jaco van Zyl shot an 11-under par round of 61 in the first round of the Turkish Airlines Open in Antalya to take a three shot lead over Lee Westwood.

The European Tour's final four-tournament series was underway and the man who stands second in the Race to Dubai, Danny Willett, opened up in round one with a dropped shot at the 10th before staging a recovery .

Four birdies followed and the Englishman returned a three under par round of 69, to leave him tied for 17th place.

Shane Lowry, fifth on the Race to Dubai list, went one better with a 68 and stands at four under, tied for 11th place.

The Race leader, Rory McIlroy, chipped in for birdie at the par five 11th on his way to a five under par round of 67 to leave him in a seven-way tie for fourth.

Alone in third place is England's Chris Wood.

Wood made a long eagle putt at the fourth and there were five birdies and only one dropped shot in his round of 66, six under par.

Lee Westwood, who won the first edition of the Race to Dubai in 2009, showed some of his very best form.

Westwood went out in 32 from the tenth and came home in 32 as well for an eight under par round of 64.

However, the round of the day came from South Africa's Jaco van Zyl.

The winner of 13 titles on the Sunshine Tour went out in 31 with four birdies and there was also an eagle 3 at the 11th.

Van Zyl came home with another five birdies in the last six holes to card a remarkable 11 under par 61 giving hi a three shot lead going into round two.
