Top seed Simona Halep brushed aside US Open champion Flavia Pennetta 6-0, 6-3 in the opening match of the WTA Finals in Singapore on Sunday (25th October).

Simona Halep reached the final in Singapore last year, and got off to a fine start in her campaign this time around.
But the top seed knew she had a tough task ahead of her, as she took on US Open champion Flavia Panetta.
But things were easier than expected - the Romanian racing into a 6-0, 1-0 lead before Pennetta even managed to win a game.
Pennetta had beaten Halep the last time they played, but the Italian was always on the back foot in this encounter.
Halep enjoying four breaks of serve as she wrapped up a 6-0, 6-3 triumph.
