SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Root, England vice-captain: (about captain Alastair Cook's marathon innings of 263):
"Two days in that heat showed huge amounts of skill, concentration and fitness. And we spoke a lot as a side about batting (for) long periods of time out here - and how important it was going to be if we were going to give ourselves chances of winning games of cricket. Our captain has led from the front there. Shown us.... set the example for the rest of the series. It gives us a glimmer of hope going in to tomorrow that we can get some sort of result now."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Root, England vice-captain: (about Cook):
"Pretty down to earth. Chats about rubbish. It's like batting with him in the middle. He doesn't really give you any banter or he doesn't look as if he's overly concentrating. He's just a model professional. He goes about his business. He knows what he needs to do and he can switch off when he needs to too. And I think that's one of the reasons why he can bat (for) long periods of time like he has done this week."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Root, England vice-captain:
"At no point in the game do we feel we can take the game away from them, even when we've built big partnerships. They controlled the economy rates very well and it made it very hard for us to score quite freely so..... I think as a side they made it very hard for us on a not very responsive wicket."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Wahab Riaz, Pakistan:
"It was good for me. The ball was reversing a bit, it was swinging both ways as well, and there was a pace in it as well, and that was in my rhythm. So I took full advantage of it and I was trying to get the batsmen out, even to Ben Stokes. He was quite lucky I think. But it happens in cricket. Sometimes you get wickets, sometimes you don't get wickets. But it was good for me."
