Reaction after Shoaib Malik's century on his return to Test cricket helped Pakistan end the opening day of the first Test against England in Abu Dhabi on top - and the day also saw Younis Khan become the leading Test run-scorer ever for Pakistan, surpassing Javed Miandad's previous record of 8,832 runs.

"Reaching 8,832 runs, it was a huge target for me. When I was somewhere around 8,000 runs, so at that time, if I pushed myself I would reach the great Javed Miandad, or pass him, so that inspiration kept me alive and at the moment..... this is my wish that I become the first Pakistani to reach 10,000 runs for his country. I believe, if I do hard work, the same way I've done the last two or three years, so I'll be there somewhere achieving my goal. So this is the inspiration to pass Javed Miandad and I still believe if I go.... push myself I will be in there, somewhere around 10,000."
