"I understand that he was well. We took care of him when he came. On Monday and Tuesday he took part in the training session, with the physiotherapists. On Wednesday he moved around, didn't feel anything different. In this match he started at a good pace, made some good runs without any problems. When he got injured, he ran in a way that he almost stole the ball from (Ecuador's) right back. It's clear that he had an injury for some time. Manuel Pellegrini substituted him in the 60th or 65th minute of his last match at Manchester City because he was overloaded. I haven't spoken properly with our doctors but I would imagine that this is in actual fact a fresh injury and not a relapse of the problem he had while with Manchester City."

"My feeling is that our team should carry on playing the way we always have. Of course, not like tonight, let's make that clear. When one tries to make the athletes play in a certain way, taking one year to take that shape. A year that included a Copa America final, which was the only official tournament we played - it's difficult for us to change that system purely because of the absence of a player like Leo Messi, even if he's the best player in the world. This is also because we have many players that can fit this system of play. If we permanently changed our way of playing we would create a lot of doubt in the players. And we wouldn't play well either because we have many players that are used to being part of this system and adapt well to it."
