  • Football icon David Beckham talks about upcoming charity match at Old Trafford on Tuesday (October 6).

SOUNDBITE: (English) David Beckham, former Manchester United player:

(On hosting the match at Old Trafford)

"To actually have the support of Manchester United I have to say a big thank you to. To have a game here is something that is very special and sacred it means a lot."

SOUNDBITE: (English) David Beckham, former Manchester United player:

(Q: Are you still match fit?)

"I'm pretty fit still, pretty fit. I try to keep myself fit, but match fit we'll see when it actually comes to it."

SOUNDBITE: (English) David Beckham, former Manchester United player:

(On having Sir Alex Ferguson return to Old Trafford as a manager for one more time)

"It means so much to so many people. For Manchester United fans to see the manager back in the dugout is a dream."

SOUNDBITE: (English) David Beckham, former Manchester United player:

    (On Sir Alex Ferguson)

"The funny thing is the manager still has that hold over us that he's always had for many years and I'm sure will continue to have. I saw him a few weeks ago. We always went through this as kids - we'd never drink in front of the manager, talk about a night out in front of the manager and then I found myself in the room with the manager the other day holding a glass of wine and the manager comes over with to me and starts talking to me. And I start kind of hiding my glass of wine behind my back. The manager will always have that hold over all of us - and rightly so."

SOUNDBITE: (English) David Beckham, former Manchester United player:

(On the possibility of former team-mate Ryan Giggs becoming coach of Manchester United)

"I've always said that Giggsy has this streak running through him that you always see in top managers. I've always said that. I saw it as a player. He's so determined and when you have someone like that at a club like this and someone that is from this part of the world and knows so much about this club, it's so embedded into him. Having someone like that (as manager) is something that means so much to fans. I hope at some point Giggsy does take over at some point. It might not be for the next five years or tens years, but it would be amazing for the fans to have him (as manager)."
