Becker and Lopez win at the Malaysian Open

  • Benjamin Becker, Feliciano Lopez and top seed David Ferrer reach the Malaysian Open semi-finals.

    The quarter finals got underway at the ATP Open in Kuala Lumpur and second seed Feliciano Lopez took on Vasek Pospisil of Canada.

    Eighth seed Pospisil started strongly and took the opening set on a tie break.

    But he faded from there, and Lopez's superior power and experience came through as he took the second set 6-3

    The third was was simple for Lopez who took it 6-2 to take the win 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 and make the last four.

    Next on court, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov took on Benjamin Becker of Germany.

    Fourth seed Dimitrov produced an error strewn opening set, and a solitary break was enough for Becker to take it 6-4.

    Dimitrov seemed to rally from there and led 5-2 in the second set.

    But Becker forced his way back into contention, reeling off three straight games to level at 5-5 before dominating the tie-break for a memorable 6-4, 7-6 victory.

    Elsewhere David Ferrer played Mikhail Kukushkin for the sixth time.

    The Spaniard made a strong start here in Kuala Lumpur, breaking Kukushkin in his opening service game and took the set 6-3.

    Kukushkin provided sterner resistance in the second set but was unable to force his way fully back into contention.

    Ferrer closed out a straight sets 6-3, 6-4 win to book his place in the semi-finals of the tournament where he'll player Becker.
