Zenit beat Rostov 3-0 on Saturday (3rd October) to provisionally move to second in the Russian Premier League.

Zenit welcomed Rostov to the Stadion Petrovskij looking to end a four-match winless streak.

One defeat and three successive draws had seen Zenit slip to fourth in the table, eight points adrift of leaders CSKA.

The visitors to St. Petersburg were level on 18 points with the hosts ahead of kick-off.

And the away side had the first chance in the 25th minute, but Mikhail Kerzhakov comfortably collected defender Timofey Margasov's effort.

Within seconds the home side had taken the lead - Igor Smolnikov getting the better of Soslan Dzhanaev from an acute angle.

And Artem Dzyuba doubled Zenit's lead when he headed past Dzhanaev following Hulk's free-kick.

Hulk was instrumental in the third when his through ball for Danny allowed the Spaniard to take the ball around the keeper.

The victory sees Zenit up into second on 21 points, five adrift on CSKA while Rostov remain in fifth.
