Ireland 'desperate' for quarter-final qualification

  • SuggestedLeadIn: Ireland make 11 changes to their side for the match with Italy, as they seek to book their place in the Rugby World Cup quarter finals with a game to spare.

Script: SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Schmidt, Ireland coach:

"I do and without being, without putting a hex on anybody, probably for us this game is a bit tougher than the last two and that will be a challenge for us. I think inevitably when you go up a level, there is a little bit more likelihood that somebody will potentially cop (get) an injury and I think that's probably testament to the groundwork that Jason Cowman (Ireland strength and conditioning coach) did with the squad prior to the tournament in that we didn't lose many through the pre-World Cup phase and we've managed to stay in tact since that so. You just touch wood and hope that that will continue and if it does, it certainly helps us and our preparation."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Schmidt, Ireland coach (on looking ahead to the final Pool D match with France):

"Without being too hackneyed (cliched) we are very much focussed on the next 48 hours because we know, as Jonny just described, Italy are going to be at their best having had a couple of games in the tournament and we know that their game prior to the tournament was a 23-19 very narrow loss at the Millennium Stadium to Wales. We know what they are capable of producing particularly with Parisse at the helm and as a result of that we haven't really looked ahead to the following week at all. For us, we have an opportunity to qualify this weekend and we're just desperate to do that."
