Roberta Vinci beats defending champion Petra Kvitova 7-6, 6-2 on Wednesday (30th September) in the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open.

Roberta Vinci has had a fantastic season so far and was hoping that would continue as she took on world number four and defending champion Petra Kvitova in the third round of Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open.

The Italian veteran put an end to Serena Williams' grand slam dominance three weeks ago when she knocked her out of the US Open and this would be another tough test.

It didnt start well for the Italian Flushing Meadows runner up as she went 4-0 down in the opening set.

But she wouldnt be defeated and after a marvellous comeback she took the opening set but took the first set 7-3 in the tie-break to claim the advantage.

Kvitova couldn't regain her earlier form and fell behind early on in the set.

A second break for the Italian sealed the match 7-6, 6-2.

Roberta Vinci now faces the No.8 seed Karolina Pliskova in the quarter-finals, after she beat Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in the third round.
