The one-year countdown to the 2016 Ryder Cup began on Monday (28th September) with a friendly exchange between rival captains in a Minneapolis skyscraper, 30 minutes away from the Hazeltine National Golf Club where the 17-inch trophy will be awarded this time next year.
Script: European captain Darren Clarke and USA captain Davis Love III met for a breakfast to mark the one-year countdown to the Ryder Cup.
It will be held on 30th September to 2nd October next year, at the Hazeltine National Gold Clun in suburban Chaska.
Because of it's team dynamic, the Ryder Cup has a unique and highly charged atmosphere, with outbursts of team cameraderie filling the course.
While the team members won't be decided until about a month before tea-off, each side has among the biggest names in golf :Jordan Spieth of Texas and Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland have won four of the last six majors.
Love captained the US team in 2012, and was brought back this year:
(SOUNDBITE: (English) Davis Love III, 2016 USA Ryder Cup captain):
"Well, thank you very much and 'Good morning Minnesota'. As Darren said, it's fantastic to be here today and start putting some names to faces, and build a relationship that will peak a year from now - and I hope won't end there. Darren, I look forward to competing against your team, it will be tough fight. I know on both sodes that it's always close, but it will be a great journey. Thank you to all of Minnesota. Thank you for support, we look forward to seeing you a lot of you over the next year. Thank you."
