  • SuggestedLeadIn: The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) suspended coach Phil Simmons with immediate effect on Monday (28th September), following comments the former Test player made regarding the One-Day International (ODI) squad selection process.

Script: West Indies coach Phil Simmons was suspended by the country's cricket board on Monday for appearing to question the make-up of the One-Day International (ODI) squad that will tour Sri Lanka in November.

Eldine Baptiste, who is a member of the West Indies Cricket Board's selection panel, will take temporary charge of the team while the issue is investigated.

Simmons reportedly said there was "too much interference from outside" in the selection of the ODI squad, after all-rounders Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard failed to make the team.

The ODI series against Sri Lanka is scheduled to start on November 1st and will be the first under new captain Jason Holder.

Fifty-two year-old Simmons, who played 26 Tests for West Indies between 1988 and 1997, has been in charge of the West Indies since March.
