  • In the Copa do Brasil, Internacional welcomed Palmeiras in what was likely to be a hard-fought affair.

The contest came to life in the 26th minute when the visitors were awarded a penalty for Ernando's clumsy challenge on Dudu.

Lucas Barrios stepped up to take the spot-kick but had his effort well saved by Alisson.

And the visitors were punished after the break, and in spectacular style. Alex unleashing an unstoppable strike from distance to give the home side the lead.

Palmeiras though, proved a continuous threat and found an equaliser in the 73rd minute via substitute Rafael Marques.

A well worked move finished off nicely with a pin point header.

1-1 the final score, setting up an exciting return leg on October 1st.

Sao Paulo were up against Vasco da Gama in Wednesday's other quarter-final.

Alexandre Pato proved to be the man of the evening as he grabbed two goals in the 3-0 victory.

The first, a simply outstanding individual effort from distance.

The second saw him score into an empty net, but it was by no means a simple goal, Pato forced to put it in from a tight angle.

It was the former AC Milan player's fourth of the campaign.

His strike partner Luis Fabiano sealed the win in the second half with a simple header, after some good work by Wilder on the wing.
