SuggestedLeadIn: Rio 2016 Ceremonies Director Fernando Meirelles spoke on Tuesday (22nd September) about working with a much lower budget than at the recent Olympic Games in London and Beijing.

Script: "Yeah… I mean… Brazil, we are in a kind of financial crisis, everybody knows. So, I think it wouldn't be fair to spend the money that London spent in their ceremonies. So, we are having a low budget, but I am happy to work with this low budget. because it makes more sense to Brazil."

"The figures are really like 10 percent of what London had. And what I was saying is that we are not complaining. Because I guess it would be a shame to waste what London spent in a country where we need sanitation, where Education needs money. So, I am very glad for not spending money like crazy. We have been very reasonable and sensitive to the way we are spending money. And this will look good, I mean, instead of… I think we are finding a way to create something that won't look rich - because it's not - but has an idea and a concept that look like us."
