  • Jagmohan Dalmiya, the president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), died in Kolkata after a short illness. He was 75.

    Script: Jagmohan Dalmiya, the president of Board of Control for Cricket in India, has died in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata.

    The 75 year-old, a former International Cricket Council (ICC) chief, was admitted to hospital last week following a cardiac arrest.

    He was ICC president from 1997 to 2000 and BCCI president from 2001 to 2004.

    Dalmiya returned as BCCI chief this year after a decade away.

    SOUNDBITE (English): Dr Anil Mishra, doctor:

    "Sir Jagmohan Dalmiya became unstable this morning and after a medical board meeting, we decided to go with an angioplasty to stabilise his cardio condition. The angioplasty was successful with stabilisation of his cardio conditions. However, late in the evening, Mr Dalmiya suffered a massive gastrointestinal tract haemorrhage and because of this bleeding, in spite of all the efforts of his doctors, he succumbed to the bleeding at around 8:45 P.M."
