SuggestedLeadIn: Spurred on by the controversy in the morning fourballs, the United States roared back from 10-6 down to beat Europe 14.5 to 13.5 in the Solheim Cup at Sankt Leon-Rot in Germany on Sunday (20th September).
Script:
There was no slow start to the day at the Solheim Cup as the last of the fourballs from Saturday caused a stir.
Following Alison Lee's missed birdie putt on 17, the European pair of Suzann Pettersen and Charley Hull looked to have conceded the putt which would have halved the hole.
However, Lee picked up her putt and because Pettersen insisted she hadn't given the putt, the Europeans took a one hole lead down the last.
America's captain - Juli Inkster's expression needed no explaining....
And then when Lee's partner Brittany Linicome rolled this putt past, the Europeans claimed the point and a 10-6 lead going into the singles.
As it stood, the Europeans needed just four points from the 12 afternoon's singles matches to lift the Solheim Cup for a third successive time.
But they met an American team that was certainly fired up.
The tears evaporated for Alison Lee as she was an early winner as the US made it 12 and a half nine and a half.
And then the Americans overwhelmed Europe.
Michelle Wie thrashing Caroline Hedwall six and four.
That made it 13 and half Europe to 12 and a half USA meaning Europe needed just a half to retain the Solheim Cup.
But when Europe conceded to Angela Stanford, news filtered through that Sandra Gal was beaten by Paula Creamer.
USA winning the Solheim Cup for the first time since 2009 and weren't they happy.
