Reaction following the first round of the Open d'Italia (Italian Open) on Thursday.

(On making eight birdies in a row).

"Well, you don't really think about anything, you know you're playing quite well, you know you're taking the chances that you give yourself. It all felt pretty easy because, I mean, except for a long putt I holed on the second, which was my eleven, all the rest was very holeable and I was hitting the right shots and I kept it, you know, very tidy around the hole which kind of made sense to me that I would have so many birdies in a row."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Nicolas Colsaerts, leader:

"Well, yes any time you shoot nine under it's quite nice, but yeah, to do it that way with a long birdie run and finish it off with another one on eight - too bad on nine because I had a... my second shot went probably 15-20 metres further than we expected, and I hit a really good shot, it was just over the green and I didn't really have any up and down at the back, which was too bad because ten (under) would have been even better, but, you know, I guess nine, anybody else would have taken nine (i.e. a nine-under score)."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Shiv Kapur, tied second:

"Very happy, obviously. I think at the start of the day if you'd said 65 I would have bitten your hand off. So, you know, it's a good start and (I) got the best of the conditions this morning. The breeze kind of picked up on the back nine but I managed to make most of my birdies on the back. So, you know, I'm pretty pleased with the start."

"Yeah, I want to be here like one and a half hours before (teeing off), eat breakfast, stretch your body, do your putting, you know all your preparation before a round. So I was pretty angry out there the first five, six holes. I was really angry. Yeah, bad morning temper so it's just..."
