  • England's Charley Hull was the star on the first day as Europe claimed a two-point 4-2 lead over the United States, after a weather-affected opening day of the Solheim Cup in Sankt Leon-Rot, Germany, on Friday (18th September).

    Script:

Rain affected the first day of the Solheim Cup in Germany in Sankt Leon-Rot.

The United States pairing of Pressel and Creamer claimed a 3&2 win over the Scandinavian pairing of Nordqvist and Pettersen.

But the English pairing of Melissa Reid and Charley Hull hit back.

Reid almost holing this monster putt at 15 to keep the pair one up - they'd go on to win 2&1.

At the end of the foursomes the teams were tied at 2-all.

Sandra Gal, a local favourite won her morning tie and looked in good touch in the afternoon.

She would finish with her partner at at one up with three to go after bad light stopped play.

Anna Nordqvist recovered from her frustrating morning with a splendid performance with Caroline Hedwall to win 4 and 3 against the USA's Creamer and Pressel.

Charley Hull defied her 19 years of age with another win in the afternoon to put Europe 4-2 up.

And then just before the light claimed the day Carlota Ciganda hit the shot of the day for an eagle on the 17th to leave that match with Mel Reid against Kerr and Thompson all square with one hole remaining.
